Editor-in-Chief Kai Scott:
As I enter my second full year with Catalyst and my first as Editor in Chief, I am ecstatic to mark the beginning of the 2021/22 publication cycle with this short message. Over the past two years, Catalyst has been a labour of love for me, my fellow executive team members, and our diverse and growing team of writers, editors, graphic designers, and podcasters. I am so excited to be able to share the work of the 2021/22 Catalyst team with our readers, listeners, and followers: both those of today and those yet to come.
The 2021/22 AY marks several new beginnings for our publication. This year, we are proud to find home at a new and improved website, designed by former Catalyst Creative Director Sena Lee. We also welcome our first ever French Section, led by Francophone Section Director Rachel Côté—more on this below. As we grow, we hope that Catalyst can continue to fulfill its stated goals: that is to (1) provide a welcoming space for undergraduates to write on and creatively engage with problems related to International Development Studies and (2) critique and challenge the inequities and injustices that animate our world today.
At a time of heightened global uncertainty that has been riven by the COVID-19 pandemic, receding human rights, and a global climate crisis, we hope that Catalyst can continue to provide an outlet for all of us, writers and readers alike, to engage with issues of importance from our own corner of the world to those from a world apart.
Francophone Section Director Rachel Côté:
En tant que première année au sein de Catalyst, je ne pourrais être plus fébrile par le lancement du premier cycle de publication francophone pour l’année 2021/22. J’attaque mon nouveau rôle de directrice de cette section avec enthousiasme et impatience. Mon équipe et moi-même avons, en effet, débuté ce projet l’été dernier, ce pourquoi nous sommes autant excités d’enfin voir les premiers résultats de nos rédacteurs et éditeurs francophones.
Tel que mentionné tôt par mon collègue Kai, éditeur en chef, cette année est remplie de nouveautés, dont la section entièrement francophone de laquelle je suis en charge. Catalyst est extrêmement fier d’offrir la possibilité aux étudiants d’écrire leurs articles et de débattre d’enjeux importants de notre monde actuel, le tout en anglais comme en français.
Bref, au nom de toute l’équipe de Catalyst, je tenais à féliciter tous nos rédacteurs et éditeurs qui ont participé au premier cycle de publication en français. Nous sommes honorés de vous avoir parmi nous et plus qu’impatients à l’idée de découvrir votre travail. Bonne lecture à tous!
